Selective Licensing came into force on 1 August 2018, so if you rent out a property in Nottingham, you’ll probably need a licence!

The scheme is estimated to cover over 30,000 privately rented homes across almost 90% of Nottingham.

The cost is £890 per property, reduced to £670 if a Landlord is accredited by DASH or Unipol.

Paid for in two parts, the first payment is £520 (£485 for accredited Landlords) and is paid when you submit your application, with the second amount at £370 (£185 for accredited Landlords) payable once the full licence has been granted.

There are other costs to factor in to help you achieve ‘approval’ for a licence. This can include:

  • An electrical safety certificate (optional but advisable)
  • A valid gas safety certificate
  • An EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) – Above an ‘F’ rating
  • A PAT test for portable appliances in the property
